UWI Mona To Provide Credit Info On Customers

As of January 31, the Mona campus of the University of the West Indies (UWI) will be providing credit information on people who do business with it.

The university says it will also be accessing the credit information of potential customers through CRIF NM Credit Assure Limited.

That's the same agency to which it will provide information on its customers.

In a newspaper advertisement yesterday, the UWI said it was taking the steps in line with Section 8 of the 2010 Credit Reporting Act.

That section gives the UWI the legal support to provide credit information on its customers. 

CRIF NM Credit Assure Limited is one of two recognised bureaus in Jamaica that compile data going back for years sent to them by financial institutions.

The information is used to generate a credit report and score for each person whose name appears in the database.
